These ball valves are great for one reason: the threaded connections. I use one on my external sump pump so that I can disconnect the whole pump while leaving all the plumbing in place. The ball turns easily and does not leak. The only downside is that the 1 1/2" version of this is VERY pricey. It was the single most expensive component of my plumbing project.
