I purchased this pump several months ago when I realized that due to the 12ft of head, the flow rate through my tank (90g) was only about 600g/hour. 4x flow is insufficient in a reef tank, so I looked into re-plumbing my system.
The reeflo marlin looked like a good choice for my circumstance (10 ft of head, wanting 15-20x flow). At 10ft of head, the flow rate drops to 2000g/hr, (as opposed to 2200g/hr).
Once I got the unit plumbed (which required a 1 1/2" FPT inlet, and a 3/4" FPT outlet, I turned it on. The first thing I noticed was how much water it moved. My overflow barely keeps up with the flow. The 2nd thing I noticed was how quiet it was. A pump moving this much water should be way louder. The external fan does a great job keeping the pump cool and quiet.
The only downside to this pump is that it's not self-priming. I fixed this by adding a check-valve to the output so there is always water in teh pump.
I would but this pump again for sure.
