Product ReviewsOverall Rating: Howard (Hobbyist) on Monday 07 June, 2010 Product Rating: Review: This filter has good chemical and mechanical filtration but when it comes to the bio wheel, it sucks. It spins for about two days then gets stuck or it is just too heavy and soaked with water it wont spin -.- So, i guess this is a good filter for the mechanical and chemical part but if you're buying this for the bio-wheel, don't buy this.
Jeremy Brown (Hobbyist) on Sunday 05 October, 2008 Product Rating: Review: I got one of these for my quarantine tank and haven't been overly impressed. The bio-wheel is a brilliant idea, but I've never had much luck getting it to spin continuously. In other words, it gets stuck, even moments after cleaning. Additionally, this unit often does not start correctly. I fill the filter with water and it still won't run correctly. It takes several attempts at pulling the intake pipe out and putting it back in to get water to flow. The last issue I have is that there is no available replaceable filter. In my QT, I don't want to run charcoal, thus I just want a mechanical filter. This unit doesn't easily allow for this.
Other units I have tried in freshwater tanks tend to be noisy as well. Overall, I am not happy with the penguin filters.
